Dr. Amy Riggs

Optometrist

Dr. Amy Riggs grew up in Pensacola, Florida where she attended Washington High School and graduated as valedictorian in 1997. She then completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida, where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. She went on to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. While at UAB, Dr. Riggs earned several awards for her academic and clinical excellence, including the Jess Boyd Eskridge Clinical Excellence Award and the Walman Optical Company Scholarship. Dr. Riggs graduated Cum Laude with her Doctorate of Optometry from UAB in 2004. She then completed a residency in Ocular Disease at OMNI Eye Service in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Riggs has published articles on ocular disease in Contemporary Optometry and Diagnostic Digest.

Dr. Riggs is a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. She has volunteered on mission trips to Mountain City, TN and to Honduras where she provided eye care in rural areas.

Dr. Riggs has been married to her husband, Stephen, since 2003 and together they have four children: Isabella, Stephen, and twins, Caleb and Hudson.

Dr. Riggs joined Shalimar Eye Care in January 2026. She previously worked at Pearle Vision in Destin, FL from 2023-2025 and Okaloosa Eye Care in Crestview, FL from 2005 – 2024. She provides comprehensive eye care including examinations for routine glasses and/or contacts, pediatrics, diabetics, ocular surgery comanagement, and the treatment and management of ocular diseases, infections and injuries.
